HD1 in Europe, any flicker with fluos?

Sorry but I cann`t find any information regarding HD1 european version(s) that would let it operate in 50Hz environment. I mean that if shutter speed doesn`t divide by 25 then I get flicker from fluoresent fixtures in Europe.

Any happy users from EU?

Thanks in advance,
T

You can set the HD1 to output PAL if you must - but it's only analog, not digital. The digital output won't switch to 25fps.

My guess is it's the capture rate you are concerned with, not the playback rate. Your TV will automatically sync with your flourescent lighting.

I transcoded some 60fps video to 50 fps for a European friend. The results looked good on both systems. Of course it would, I'm recording a 60hz light source at a 60 hz rate and transcoding after the fact. No pulsing to contend with because the source and recorder were synced.

You are wondering about recording a 50Hz light source at 60Hz, and that I can't answer. I can legitimize your concern though. On a recent camping trip, I was recording video and the lights in the background pulsated on camera (very slowly). Thinking back, they were running a generator to feed flourescents and it wasn't synced. Of course, I don't have the video any more; the pulsing light wrecked the image so I discarded it.

In my example, it is important to note that I'm talking about a generator that was running about .5-1Hz out. At your speed, the pulsing may be fast enough to miss detection.

In addition to the question of pulsing during view, there is also a question of pulsing on the OLED display, which won't be at 50Hz either. I don't think you'd notice the pulsing there, but you might notice eye strain.

Just a thought... If the camera is restricted to analogue out and has the wrong capture rate, it begs asking if Sanyo even sells it in your area. We've hear plenty of problems obtaining service for imported cameras. You might want to check your source options, as the implications of a grey market camera impact value as well.

As a sidenote, if you do find a local supplier, you might also find your answer to viability in your 50Hz environment.
